On Our Radar: Dog Museums, Tiny Houses and More!

Doggy splash pools, solar homes and Netflix’s revenge—here’s a look at what’s on our radar for the week.

The Dog Days are Here

Meet DoGUMENTA, America’s first museum exhibit for dogs. The brainchild of art critic Jessica Dawson, the exhibit was designed to combine the whimsy of art with fun installations for pups and people alike. Designed with her Yorkie terrier Rocky in mind, the 3-day exhibit attracted hundreds to the Marina in lower Manhattan. Dawson cites DoGUMENTA’s debut as a huge success and plans to stage several other events like it in the near future.

Tesla Goes Tiny

Has Tesla designed the next step in sustainable housing? The energy company’s rolling out across Australia to debut it’s Model X, a tiny house designed to show off the capabilities of social energy. The Tiny House is scheduled to make stops in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney, where it’ll show off the 2.5 ton house on wheels. Tiny House has a grand total of six solar panels which will soak up the bright Australia sun for a total 2kW in potential energy.

The Model X exhibit comes at a turbulent time for Tesla, whose recent bond offering has garnered significant criticism. Launching the solar exhibit could indicate plans for a new Tesla solar push, but for now consumers will just have to enjoy the Model X’s tour around the country.

Scandal Writer Gone to Netflix

Shonda Rhimes, the brain behind primetime hits like Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder just dealt a major blow to ABC.  Following Disney’s unplanned break from their Netflix contract and subsequent announcement of their new streaming platform, Netflix lured Rhimes away from her deal with ABC. The deal is described as an exclusive overall deal, that’ll give Netflix the rights to new Rhimes shows. For the past 12 years, Rhimes and her production company Shondaland, have dominated ABC’s primetime lineup—so much so that the #TGIT  or “Thank God It’s Thursday” tag was born to celebrate the weekly airing of Rhimes’ dramas.  Her departure marks a big blow to ABC owner Disney as the fight for alt TV continues.
